(Course Objectives and Contents) :
Our Earth is home to an incredible diversity of life. What processes led to this diversity? Why do some species and their habitats seem so perfectly matched? How have millions of existing and extinct species emerged? The course is designed to teach students the essential concepts of evolutionary theory. Topics include Earth's history, paleontology, systematic classification, population genetics, natural selection, fitness and adaptation, sexual selection, speciation, evolutionary trends, molecular evolution, evolution and embryology, species extinction, and human origins. Additionally, the course will explore the applications of evolutionary biology in modern medicine, public health, agriculture, psychology, cultural studies, and conservation biology.
